Playing in PSL more rewarding than in IPL: Dale Steyn

The preparations for the Indian Premier League are going on full speed as there are not many days left for the 14th season of the tournament to start. But, there is a player who has withdrawn his name ahead of the auctions of the Indian Premier League. It’s none other than the South African cricketer Dale Steyn who is playing in Pakistan Super League at present.

As per Dale Steyn, the Indian Premier League (IPL) does not reward the player much as compared to the Pakistani Super League (PSL). He said that the IPL is more about money and there is not much cricket left in it, There is no sportsmanship.

The player announced on Twitter about withdrawing his name from the IPL auctions. He wrote that he wanted some time off from the big championships and the small leagues like PSL are more rewarding than IPL. He added that in big leagues like IPL, everything is big there, big teams, big players, big franchises, and marketing, and there’s too much focus on the money, money is the only motivating factor there, and somehow cricket gets forgotten here.

Though Steyn used to play in IPL in past and he had played for teams like Gujarat lions, Deccan Chargers, SunRisers Hyderabad, and Royal Challengers Bangalore. We don’t know after playing for years what made him think now that IPL is not rewarding anymore.

Steyn added that as he is playing currently in Pakistan Cricket League and has played in Sri Lankan Premier League in past, he found that people used to care more about cricket. I the rooms, other players used to ask him about his past cricket experiences, the matches that he had played, the scores he had made, etc. While in the IPL, all that he used to get questions about is the money that he got for playing in the tournament.

Talking about his performance in the IPL last season, he didn’t put on a show. He played three matches and could only take one wicket.

Money is a very important factor in life, no matter what you do. But, after a certain time, motivating factors change. After some time, when one has enough money, he thinks about other factors. In the case of Dale Steyn too, he is right. He has enough money now and he cares more about validation now.

Do you think Dale Steyn’s decision to not playing in IPL was right?
