Punjab CM urges BCCI to include Mohali Cricket stadium for IPL 2021

The board of Council for Cricket in India has decided to host the Indian Premier League’s matches in 5 cities namely, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Delhi. Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium is still under discussion and due to Covid-19, Mumbai stadium is not likely to be added to the list. Due to selecting those stadiums, three teams, Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, and Punjab Kings protested against the board as they won’t having any matches at home.

After all the issues, BCCI announced that they will think about it and will give a final decision by the end of this month. However, the Chief Minister of Punjab, Amarinder Singh reached to BCCI to reconsider their decision and add Mohali stadium too to the list so Punjab Kings will also get to play at their home ground.

Singh also told the board that all the necessary precautions relating to Covid-19 will be taken and the safety of players and people will be considered on priority. The board will not have to be worried about it. He took Twitter to show his disappointment in BCCI’s decision to exclude the Mohali stadium. The Punjab Cricket Stadium has always been the home ground for the Punjab Kings team in previous seasons, and they wanted it to be home ground for this season too.

As per the Covid-19 records, Punjab’s positive cases count is very low as there are only 635 new cases and total cases in the whole Punjab totals to around 4800.

Unlike last year’s season where the matches were played in UAE due to Covid-19 issues, this time things have improved as we will get to see the matches being held in India. The board is yet to take a final decision on the stadiums where the matches will be played. There are chances that only the previous five stadiums only will be finalized for the tournament. If BCCI accepts Punjab CM’s appeal, there will only be two states left that won’t have a home ground and they might also appeal to the board to add their stadiums too.
