IF YOU START FIGHTING THAT FEELING, IT GROWS STRONGER’ – VIRAT KOHLI ON HOW SACHIN TENDULKAR’S WORDS OF WISDOM HELPED HIM FIGHT DEPRESSION

Indian Cricket team’s Captain Virat Kohli has shared a story about his depression and how did he overcome it. There was a time in 2014 when the player was in England for India’s tour of England. The player was facing mental challenges as he didn’t perform well on the tour. He could only manage to score 134 runs in 10 innings which is very low for such a great player. The player got very disappointed in his performance and that made him depressed all the time.

Virat Kohli has made numerous records in his names and helped the team a lot of times in winning matches. He has scored a lot of centuries and half-centuries for the team. When are you are such a good player and still fail to meet the expectations in 10 continuous innings, no doubt it will put you in depression. 

Kohli has shared about how he was fighting depression and how the great Sachin Tendulkar helped him. He said that Tendulkar was the one who advised him and helped him in overcoming depression.

Virat Kohli added that he talked with Sachin about the phase that he was going through. Sachin Tendulkar told him the things that he had experienced in his cricket career and told him that he should let those negative feelings which were regularly coming into his system. Sachin told Virat that he would have to fight the feeling and that’s only how he would get stronger. Kohli said that Sachin’s words helped him a lot and his mindset opened after that.

IT WAS A HARD TIME

In 2014, when India was touring England, people were criticizing Virat on his poor performance which eventually got the player into depression. Virat said that it was a hard time as he was not able to play and waking up with such a feeling in the morning is very hard and makes the person completely depressed. But things became normal soon and the player has been destroying the bowlers completely since then. It’s been seven years since the test match and he has scored more than 22000 runs in his cricket career.
