The 2nd leg of IPL 2021 started with Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings played at Dubai International Stadium, Dubai on 19th September. Due to the COVID outbreak, the first leg of IPL 2021 was postponed.
It was a competitive tournament in the first leg as all teams apart from Sunrisers Hyderabad showed their class.
Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals performed brilliantly while Royal Challengers Bangalore were surprised with their performances. Mumbai Indians had a mixed bag with 8 points.
Rajasthan Royals produced a great display to register thrilling 2 runs win over Punjab Kings. Kolkata Knight Riders began the 2nd season with a thumping win over Royal Challengers Bangalore.
It promises to be a cracking 2nd leg with all teams have a chance to qualify for the knockout rounds.

Chennai Super Kings
Chennai Super Kings is currently at the number 1 spot after defeating Mumbai Indians by 20 runs in the opening match of the second leg played at Dubai International Stadium, Dubai on 19th September.
CSK performed brilliantly in the first leg losing only two matches. They lost their opening match to Delhi Capitals by 7 wickets. After that, they outplayed Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore.
In their last group match of leg 1, despite CSK posting 218 runs in 20 overs, their bowlers could not defend and lost it by 4 wickets.
CSK looks a dangerous side with top quality players in their squad including Ruturaj Gaikwad making a match-winning 88 runs against Mumbai Indians.
After being reduced to 24 for 4, Gaikwad held his fort and helped CSK post 156 for 6 in 20 overs.
They would be looking to do well in the upcoming matches and qualify for the playoff stage.
CSK the three-time champions struggled last season finishing 7th place. MS Dhoni captaincy has been great and would be looking to lead from the front.
Delhi Capitals
Under the captaincy of Rishabh Pant, Delhi Capitals has performed brilliantly with 6 wins in the first leg of IPL 2021. They won matches against Chennai Super Kings, twice against Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad in a Super Over, and Kolkata Knight Riders.
Their losses came against Royal Challengers Bangalore by 1 run and against Rajasthan Royals by 3 wickets.
Delhi Capitals has performed brilliantly so far with Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw giving flying starts to the team. DC would be hoping to start the 2nd leg on a winning note against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Dubai.
Avesh Khan was impressed in the first leg for Delhi Capitals. He performed brilliantly taking wickets at the start and grabbed wickets in death overs. Anrich Nortje did not get a chance to play.
With Shreyas Iyer coming into the squad, DC looks like a dangerous unit, and hope that they go a long way to win their maiden IPL title after reaching finals for the first time last year.
Rajasthan Royals
Rajasthan Royals has shown tremendous guts so far in IPL 2021. The things looked down and out against Punjab Kings played in Dubai International Stadium, Dubai yesterday.
After being 164 for 4 in 16 overs, Rajasthan Royals could only post 21 runs and lost 6 wickets to be bowled out for 185. KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal began brilliantly with 120 runs opening stand before Sakaryia got rid of Rahul.
Rahul Tewaita dismissed the other opener Mayank Agarwal to bring back RR into the game. Nicolas Pooran and Aiden Markram added 57 runs for the 3rd wicket.
Karthik Tyagi bowled a stunning final over giving away just 1 run with wickets of Pooran and Deepak Hooda. His bowling effort helped RR seal a thrilling 2 run win.
Rajasthan Royals looks like a dangerous unit with many big hitters in the squad like Evin Lewis, Liam Livingstone, and other young hitters who can create a major impact.
With the 4th win against Punjab Kings, RR can spring a surprise and move up in the points table.
Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians is one of the strongest contenders to win IPL 2021. They had a mixed bag tournament in the first phase of IPL 2021. Kieron Pollard’s special knock helped Mumbai Indians chase down a massive target of 219 runs.
I started the 2nd phase on a losing note with an 20 runs loss to Chennai Super Kings.
Pollard captained MI against CSK due to the unavailability of Rohit Sharma. Despite reducing Dhoni’s side to 24 for 4, his captaincy was not great and let CSK post 156 for 6.
With Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya not included, MI batting struggled and posted 136 for 8 in 20 overs. Captain Rohit is likely to make a comeback against Kolkata Knight Riders.
After a mixed bag performance during the first leg of IPL 2021, MI would be looking to win matches in succession and qualify for the knockout stage.
