The BCCI is still looking for options to host the remaining 31 matches of the Indian Premier League 2021 season after the IPL 2021 season was postponed to an indefinite period because the deadly COVID 19 virus had breached the bio bubble of the players and the support staff members. They were also tested positive.
In the IPL 2021 season, only 24 days were possible, and 29 matches of the league stages were completed without any hassles. If the Board of Control for Cricket in India doesn’t complete the reaming 31 matches of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League, then the Indian board will be at a loss of more than 2500 crores.
The IPL 14th edition cannot be completed in India because of the rising COVID 19. There are many deaths every day across the cities of India.
Therefore, BCCI can move the cash-rich league tournament abroad just like they did in 2009, the half of 2014 and the whole season of 2020.
The other overseas countries have offered BCCI to host the remaining 31 matches of the IPL 2021 season in their countries. So now it is up to the BCCI to choose which foreign country they prefer according to the logistics and other issues.
According to the recent reports, Sri Lanka is the latest country that has offered BCCI to host the next phase of the tournament, and there are countries like UAE, England Australia also interested in hosting the remaining 31 matches of this season.
Sri Lanka – This Asian country is the latest to offer BCCI to host the remainder of the IPL 2021 season. Countries like Sri Lanka don’t even earn half of the money which the UAE earned last year, and India earns every year because of the richest cricket league in the world.
Sri Lanka is ready to host the tournament after the Lankan Premier League in July August. The grounds and the infrastructure will be ready to host the 31 matches of the IPL 2021 season in September.
England – India will tour England for the inaugural WTC Final and the five-match Test series against England’s hosts. Moving the remaining 31 matches of this cash-rich league tournament to the United Kingdom is another option for BCCI to consider.
The weather in England will be good, and it will not be hot like UAE. They can adjust the timing of the match according to the IST – Indian Standard Time for the viewers of the IPL.
Australia – The IPL down under will add another new chapter in the IPL’s history. The World T20 will be held in 2022 in Australia, and so if this year IPL played in Down Under, it would be greater for the Indian players to judge the conditions and grounds quite well before the ICC mega tournament. However, BCCI will have to wait for the Australian government to give the Indian travelers the clearance to make this event possible.
UAE – The last option for the BCCI is the first option because it is a known devil. BCCI had hosted the IPL in the United Arab Emirates twice. In the last year, the Indian Board had spent 98.5 crores to host the IPL 2020 season. So the board knows the logistics, infrastructure, and groundswell in the UAE.
Last year, the IPL was completed because they shifted it to that country. The World T20 is being planned to be hosted in the United Arab Emirates. So it would be good, especially for the Indian players. They can know the dimensions and the conditions of the ground in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah.
