It was a great start for Kolkata Knight Riders in the 1st match of 2nd leg as they thrashed Royal Challengers Bangalore by 9 wickets played at Sheikh Zayed International Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Monday.
Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Kohli won the toss and decided to bat first. The decision backfired for RCB as they were skittled out for just 92 runs. Paddikal and Bharat put on 31 runs for the 2nd wicket before KKR bowlers kept on picking wickets at regular intervals.
Varun Chakravarthy showed great courage and control with 3 wickets giving away 13 runs from 4 overs. He took wickets of Maxwell and Hasaranga off successive deliveries to leave RCB in tatters.
His performance went in great shape as he grabbed the wicket of Sachin Baby and was involved in running out hitting his hands resulting in a run out of Kyle Jamieson. Chakravarthy ended with figures of 3 for 13 in 4 overs not even conceding 1 boundary.
Iyer and Shubman Gill provided a flying start for KKR putting on 82 runs for the opening wicket. Both batsmen kept the pressure on RCB bowlers. Iyer scored the winning runs helping KKR register 9 wicket win with 60 balls to spare.
For his 3 for 13 in 4 overs, Varun Chakravarthy was awarded the man of the match. It augers well for the Indian team as the mystery has been selected in the main squad for World T20 2021 to be played from 23rd October.
The Indian teams is placed with arch-rivals Pakistan, New Zealand, Afghanistan, and 2 more qualifiers in Group 2 of the Super 12 stage.
