Right before RCB’s first match in the 2nd leg against Kolkata Knight Riders, Indian most successful captain Virat Kohli decided to step down from the captaincy of the franchise.

RCB franchise has not won an IPL title since its inception in 2008. They reached IPL finals thrice in 2009, 2011, and in 2016.

Kohli has been under tremendous criticism for his playing XI. His performance with the bat has been brilliant. Under the captaincy of Kohli, RCB is currently in 3rd place and would be improved on their performances after the resumption of IPL after the first leg was postponed due to COVID cases.

“Hello everyone, the whole RCB family, the amazing fans of Bangalore, and to all those who have supported us.

I have an announcement to make,” Kohli said in a video uploaded on RCB’s official Twitter handle.

“This will be my last IPL as captain of RCB. I’ll continue to be an RCB player till I play my last IPL game. I thank all the RCB fans for believing in me and supporting me,” Kohli said.

Kohli has created a major impact in IPL with 5 centuries to his name. He holds the record of most runs in a single edition.

It was an amazing performance by Kohli who smashed 973 runs in 16 matches and helped RCB reach the finals during the 2016 edition.

He would be looking to prove his mettle one more time with the bat and help RCB win their maiden IPL title. For the last few years, Kohli lacked the skills to win prestigious titles with big names like AB de Villiers and others.

With Maxwell and other replacements announced, it looks like a strong RCB unit this year hoping to end the trophy drought.

After being involved for one franchise since the start, Kohli and Co would be hoping for a positive start against KKR to be played in Abu Dhabi.
