Pakistan has produced many seam bowling greats in cricketing history, and Mohammad Amir is one of them. Amir had retired from the International Cricket arena in December 2020.
The speedster was just 29 years of age when he took this decision, and that’s what had created a controversy in the cricketing world.
Amir will apply for the citizenship of the United Kingdom. A few days before, Amir told a website regarding this decision. He wants to get the British visa to play the Indian Premier League, and he also believes that still six to seven years of cricket is left in him.
The Indian Board, BCCI doesn’t allow participation of the players from Pakistan into their cash-rich league tournament. Azahar Mahmood was the first and player who had participated in this tournament as a UK citizen. He was a vital part of the Punjab Kungs and Kolkata Knight Riders franchises.
In today’s segment, we shall let our viewers and readers know about the top three teams which might consider Mohammad Amir in the tournament if the seam bowler takes the route of Azhar Mahmood to participate in the best T20 tournament –
Punjab Kings – The franchise has the Indian pace bowling star Mohammad Shami. But still, the franchise has not done well in recent years. That is mainly because the pace bowling attack of Punjab Kings has only one or two impact bowlers in their team with Shami.
PBKS needs someone with Shami to bowl in the first six overs of the powerplay and the final depth overs. Shami has bowled well. But he has not been supported well by the others pacers in the team.
Punjab Kings picked Sheldon Cottrell in their mix in the IPL 2020 season. But the Windies pacer leaked a lot of runs in the powerplay and death overs. In IPL 2021, too, the pace bowlers didn’t make an impact in the first five matches of this half-completed season.
Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith weren’t the impact bowlers which PBKS needed. So the franchise will need the services of Mohammad Amir, and his track record proves that he will be a handy bowler in the powerplay overs and depth overs.
Royal Challengers Bangalore – The Virat-led RCB side had Kyle Jamieson, Daniel Christian, Mohmmad Siraj, and Harshal Patel in their lineup for the IPL 2021 season. They did well in the 14th edition of the IPL. As a result, RCB was placed third on the points table. But in the overall IPL history, RCB still doesn’t have a genuine pace bowler, which is why RCB has not clinched the title till now.
The death over bowling is a big issue for RCB. Kyle Jamieson was brought for 15 crores in the auction for this season to address this issue. But the Kiwi bowler failed to deliver. Mohammad Siraj and Harshal Patel did well. But they didn’t perform well as a depth over bowlers.
Harshal gave 37 runs in his final over against CSK, which made RCB lose that match by a big margin of runs. So having Mohammad Amir will be a good idea. The experience and skill of this Pakistani bowler might help to win their first trophy.
Kolkata Knight Riders – This team has a well-balanced squad that can challenge any opposition. But since 2014, KKR has failed to reach the playoffs stages, and they have failed to win a title after Gautam Gambhir left them. Their outing in IPL 2021 season was also a disaster. They couldn’t give an all-round performance, and they lost those matches which the team could have won quite comprehensively.
KKR was at the second last position of the points table because they won just two games from the seven matches played in the first half of the IPL 2021 season. Pat Cummins and the Indian fast bowling core didn’t boost them in this season.
The Purple Army can find a place for Mohammad Amir because he is well equipped to accompany the fast bowlers. KKR can certainly drop Narine and Russell from their team to include Amir and Fergusson in their playing eleven.
