The BCCI announced its 15-man squad for the prestigious T20 World Cup 2021 to be played in the United Arab Emirates starting from 23rd October.
Chief selector Chetan Sharma announced a strong 15-man squad and 3 reserves for the prestigious tournament. It looks like a perfect squad with the likes of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Ishan Kishan, Pant, Hardik Pandya.
They have included 5 spinners including Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Rahul Chahar, Varun Chakravarthy. The selectors recalled ace off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin keeping in the mental conditions in UAE.
Apart from these 5 spinners, they have given place to Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar in 15. The three reserves include Shardul Thakur, Shreyas Iyer, and Deepak Chahar.
BCCI roped in MS Dhoni as the mentor for the team. Apart from these selections, Chetan Sharma dropped Yuzvendra Chahal. Chahal has done a great job for the Indian team in the shorter format and picked up wickets.
Sharing light on the omission of Chahal, chief selector Chetan Sharma said: “Yuzvendra Chahal’s name was discussed.
But we picked Rahul Chahar over Yuzi as we wanted someone who bowls fast and gets pace off the pitch. He also gets the ball to grip through the surface.”
Rahul Chahar did a great job for the Mumbai Indians in the first leg of IPL 2021. He also performed brilliantly during Sri Lankan limited-overs series. He created a major impact in last year’s IPL grabbing a total of 21 wickets held in UAE.
The Indian Premier League season 14 2nd leg will be happening in the United Arab Emirates from 19th September. All the players selected would be eager to perform well and gain confidence ahead of the prestigious tournament.
India will begin their World Cup campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on 24th October in Group 2. They are clubbed with Pakistan, New Zealand, Afghanistan, and 2 qualifiers. Virat Kohli led side is one of the favorites to win the title.
