Sydney to continue new year’s Test match after Cricket Australia gives green light

After Cricket Australia confirm it safe to play in Sydney then the new year’s Test match will be held in SCG as planned. 

There is a doubt regarding the third match of the series between India and Australia scheduled to held in Sydney, from 7th of January. This match came in doubt after coronavirus outbreak again declared in the northern beaches.

The ability of the support staff, players and broadcasters to travel from the New South Wales is the main issues arising apart from the cluster. The travelling is to be made from South Wales after the Sydney Test to Queensland. Where the final match scheduled on January 15 to start. This match will be held on Brisbane’s Gabba. 

However, on Tuesday, Cricket Australia confirmed there will be no change in the summer plans and will be held as scheduled. This decision was made after a board meeting.

CA’s interim CEO, Nick Hockley, said in the meeting that health guidance from both the NSW and Queensland governments had confirmed this decision, as because players and all other staff member’s health comes first. 

Hockley said that over the past week we have met regularly to examine the unravelling public health dilemma in Sydney. With this, they analyse its impact on border limitations around the country and whether there is a need to lockdown again. 

He further added that till date they have been able to provide a safe and healthy summer and all thanks to there precise biosecurity protocols. It’s another profile too who worked behind the scenes and never came in spotlight. 

Moreover, the current situation of coronavirus pandemic reduces the number of fans into the SCG. 

Although, it’s yet not confirmed, but some sources claiming the capacity might get reduced to 50% sue to the current pandemic scenario.

Hockey said they are deciding what to do regarding this in concern with the SCG and NSW government. The entire team is analysing what can be said a safe number in this pandemic scenario. 

Lastly, he added that tickets are on sale for the new year’s Test with no confirmation of seat reduction. Apart from this, they will continue to work on this and take the best advice.
