Since the first season of the IPL, Suresh Raina has been a key player for the Chennai Super Kings. The seasoned competitor has four championships to his name during his time playing for MS Dhoni as captain.
Additionally, Suresh Raina leads Chennai Super Kings in runs scored. But before the massive IPL 2022 auction, the four-time IPL winners dropped their talismanic run-scorer. Robin Uthappa has already hinted that CSK will prioritize Suresh Raina in the blockbuster auction.
That, however, was not meant to be. In actuality, no team expressed interest in signing Mr. IPL. Raina, also known as “Chinna Thala,” delighted the crowd by playing aggressively.
In the IPL, Suresh Raina has participated in 205 games. The veteran has amassed 5528 runs overall with a 32.52 average. The southpaw has 39 fifty-singles and a century to his credit.
MS Dhoni, the former captain of India, surprised the cricketing world when he announced his retirement from international play on August 15, 2020.
After the 2019 World Cup, he was anticipated to retire, but because he postponed the announcement, many speculated that he would play in the T20 World Cup in 2021.
But that didn’t happen, as Dhoni announced his retirement one month before the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) season began. Suresh Raina accompanied Dhoni on his retirement journey.
The same day that the two made the major announcements, Raina arrived at the CSK camp.

Will Suresh Raina declare his departure from cricket altogether?
After Mr. IPL didn’t sell during the auction, the fans vented their anger on social media. However, Raina’s decision to register as a Hindi commentator at the auction pleased a significant portion of his supporters.
This season marked the beginning of his commentary career, and even former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri joined him. All season long, Raina is anticipated to provide game commentary.
Raina already declared his intention to retire from international cricket on or around August 15, 2020. Following that, he was absent from the thirteenth Indian Premier League.
Despite showing up for the fourteenth edition, the southpaw fell short of expectations. Before the IPL 2022 season, he was cut from the team. In this version, Raina is likewise not likely to be selected as a player’s replacement.
It is safe to assume that the southpaw may soon wave goodbye to all versions of the game.
For India, Raina has participated in 18 Tests, 226 ODIs, and 78 T20Is, amassing 768, 5615, and 1605 runs in total. He criticized 36 fifties, five centuries, and five fifties and one century in ODIs, Tests, and T20Is, respectively.
Suresh Raina has made the decision to leave the world of international cricket. It was nothing but great playing with you, @mahi7781, Raina said on Instagram on Saturday, just moments after his colleague MS Dhoni announced his retirement.
I decide to accompany you on your path with a heart full of pride. Gratitude to India. Jay Hind.
Suresh Raina made a similar announcement about retiring from the highest level of cricket only a few minutes after MS Dhoni did.
Raina and Cricket
Based on his success in domestic cricket and the IPL, the left-handed batsman may have made a comeback to the T20I side, but the day after coming, he chose to quit the Chennai Super Kings’ preseason camp.
Raina presently only participates in domestic cricket and the IPL. Raina has the choice to change his mind because he hasn’t played in a foreign league yet, but he seems OK with it.
Raina, one of the athletes who started their IPL training in the months before the competition, did travel to the United Arab Emirates, but he returned after 13 positive COVID-19 tests at the CSK camp.
His sources said he wanted a room with a balcony since he was unhappy with his flat. These reports, however, were never validated.
Raina, a former acting captain for Team India, served as Dhoni’s assistant at CSK for a considerable amount of time. Raina is most likely to keep his job if he dons the yellow jersey once more.
For the first time since 2008, he will be up for auction if CSK releases him. A firm announcement about Raina’s future with CSK will be made public as soon as the BCCI specifies the deadline for disclosing the list of freed players.
Raina will start preparing for the IPL 2021 since he will shortly be playing for Uttar Pradesh in the next Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The lineup also includes Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
In 2005, 33-year-old Raina faced Sri Lanka in his debut ODI. The left-hander was one of India’s most dependable performers on the field, scoring 5,615 runs in 226 ODIs.
He averages 35.3 with 36 fifty-sevens and five hundred. Additionally, he played his first Test in 2010 against Sri Lanka. He participated in 18 games (31 innings) in the longer game, totaling 768 runs at an average of 26.6.
He didn’t make the ICC World Cup team after his final match for India took place in July 2018. The left-handed batsman for India has scored 5615 runs at an average of 35.31 in 226 ODIs.
He has also participated in 78 T20 Internationals and 18 Tests for India. Raina’s chances of making the Indian cricket team are slim. He made his final international appearance in 2018 during India’s tour of England.
Since that time, he has lost the team’s trust. In terms of limited-overs contests, Raina batted at No. 3, or the fourth position, which is now held by Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer. He was unable to recover as a result.
However, both athletes will represent their IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings in the 13th edition of the league, which will take place in the United Arab Emirates (CSK).
