In the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, Kane Williamson had done an amazing job of leading New Zealand from the front.
The Kiwis entered the competition as one of the strong favorites to win the coveted trophy. They were virtually unbeatable in the event before three straight losses nearly ended their season.
However, the Black Caps maintained their composure and defeated tournament favorites India in the semifinal to go to their second consecutive World Cup final.
They were in a great position to win their first world title in the summit match, but an odd umpiring call and a strange rule transformed their dream into a nightmare.
However, Kane Williamson, the captain of New Zealand, had some cause to celebrate after being named the tournament’s top player for his 578 runs scored and great leadership that helped the Kiwis advance to their second straight World Cup final. Indian great Sachin Tendulkar gave him the honor.

Williamson stated that despite how painful it is, England deserves praise for their outstanding campaign.
The game, in his opinion, had a number of opportunities to go either way, but perhaps it “wasn’t meant to be” for his squad at those particular moments.
At the post-match presentation, Kane Williamson said ”That was a little bit of a shame, wasn’t it? It’s, unfortunately, that sort of a game we played and then that sort of thing happens from time to time.
But, yeah hope it does not happen in moments like that, and like I said it’s pretty tough to nitpick except for the fact that this wasn’t meant to be for us”
Thus his sportsman spirit touched our hearts and might have had the same impact on the SunRisers Hyderabad thus they recalled his outstanding knock.
To recall and remind this knock of Kiwis, especially Kane Williamson they tweeted:
“578 – Most runs by a captain in a single World Cup
27 % of the Kiwis’ runs at #CWC19
4 50+ scores
#OTD in 2019, Kane Williamson won the Player of the Tournament award at the World Cup!”
