England cricket Ben Stokes has made history by getting named as Wisden Leading Cricketer in the world again. It is the second time that Stokes has been named with such a prestigious award. The first time Stokes was named the Wisden Leading Cricketer was in 2004.
STOKES’ POWERFUL TEST PERFORMANCE
The young English player got the award second time for his brilliant performance in the test matches in the year 2020. The all-rounder played 7 test matches in the whole year and scored 641 runs and took 19 wickets.
The highest scores of Stokes in the test are against South Africa in which he scored 176 runs and West Indies where he scored 120 runs.
Stokes was playing for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League 2021 but he got out of the game as he injured his finger in the first match of the Royals. He will not be able to play for the rest of the tournament.
However, from the women’s section, Australian cricket player Beth Mooney got the award of the leading cricketer in the world. The best performance of Beth Mooney was in the Women’s T20 World Cup played last year where she scored 78 runs in the final against India.
It was Beth’s performance that helped the team win the finals. Mooney also finished as the highest runs scorers of the tournament and she got the player of the tournament award too.
So, what do you think? Did Ben Stokes and Beth Mooney deserve the awards or there is someone else who was more deserving than them?
