The fifth and final ODI match between Australia and Sri Lanka was contested on Friday where Australia won the match by 4 wickets, losing the series by 3-2.
The hosts won the toss and decided to bat first.
Wicketkeeper batsman Alex Carey’s unbeaten 45 helped Australia to win over the hosts by 4 wickets.
On the bowling friendly pitch of Colombo, Australia bowled out Sri Lanka for 160 before reaching the target with 10.3 overs to spare.
To support their side Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins and Matthew Kuhnemann took two wickets each.
After Sri Lanka’s unbeatable lead in the fourth match, Chamika Karunaratne hit 75 for Sri Lanka.
Carey and Marnus Labuschagne made a 51 run partnership to set up the chase when Australia was in a tricky situation at 4-50.
Dunith Wellalage took three main wickets including David Warner, for 10, and Glenn Maxwell, for 16.
For the ninth wicket, Karunaratne and debutant Pramod Madushan put on a 58 run stand.
Hazlewood dismissed the openers within five overs finishing at 2-22 to give a shock to the hosts.
Glenn Maxwell took Kusal Mendis’ wicket at 26 while his partner, Charith Asalanka got run out at 14 due to a misunderstanding.
Karunaratne scored his maiden ODI fifty including eight fours and two sixes.
Madushan took his first international wicket after he sent back Mitchell Marsh for 24.
The hosts won the series 3-2, bouncing their opening loss, against Australia in more than a decade.
The two teams will soon head to Galle for two Tests which are beginning from June 29.
