Siraj Replace Bumrah In Indian Vs South Africa Series

Mohammed Siraj has been chosen to replace Jasprit Bumrah in the ongoing series between India and South Africa. On Friday, the BCCI announced, “The All-India Senior Selection Committee named Mohammed Siraj as a replacement for the injured Jasprit Bumrah for the remainder of the T20I series against South Africa.”

Replacing Siraj with Bumrah is a bit difficult to digest. The skill level and most important experience difference between both players is like a land-sky difference. Siraj has played only five T-20 matches for India, five wickets in total, with an economy of 10.45. His last T-20 match was against Sri Lanka earlier this year.

The All-India Senior Selection Committee had better options other than Siraj. They could have brought Mohammed Shami in place of him. He was a way better option for the Indian team as a replacement for Bumrah.

BCCI also said, “Bumrah has sustained a back injury and is currently under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team.”

Bumrah was out of the first T-20 against South Africa, and a day later he was sent to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru to monitor his back condition.

View of Shoaib Aktar of Bumrah’s Bowling Action

During an interview with Sports Tak, Akhtar said, “His (Bumrah’s) bowling is based on frontal action. Players with that action bowl with their backs and shoulder speed. We used to be side-on, and that used to compensate for the pressure on the back.

“Front-on action has no compensation, and with that action, when the back gives in, you can’t escape it irrespective of how much you try,”

His words were correct Bumrah is sustaining injuries, and if we believe the words of Aktar, this could be the consequence. If that’s the case, maybe Bumrah has to change his bowling action. The frontal action he uses can be the reason for the recent back injury.

Mohammed Siraj has got a big responsibility. He has been replaced by the matchwinner. The man who is responsible for many crucial wickets for the Indian team. I hope the decision to bring him back to the T-20 squad will not be a flaw of the All-India Senior Selection Committee.
