Shreyas Iyer Will Lose His Spot In The T20 World Cup, Remark’s Wasim Jaffer

Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer believes that star batter Shreyas Iyers’ position in the Indian squad is at stake until he shows great form by working on his skills against short pitch deliveries.

Jaffer said that as Shreyas is playing at No.3, he could lose his spot as soon as Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav return and retain their position because Kholi occupies the place of No.3 and Surya holds the place of middle-order batter.

He also said that Rishabh Pant’s game perfectly suits the T20 format. But he still needs more clarity and better shot selection.

“I think, yes. Suryakumar Yadav, if he’s fit, walks into Team India and Virat Kohli will be back at No. 3 as well so unless he shows great form, Shreyas Iyer will lose his spot,” Jaffer told ESPNcricinfo after the third T20I.

“Yes, they will be candidates. When KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma return, Ishan Kishan could perhaps be a backup wicketkeeper after Rishabh Pant and Gaikwad [could be there too]. You take 18-20 players so perhaps both could be there,” Jaffer added.

Shreyas became the second-highest run-getter in T20Is after scoring 319 T20I runs in 2022.
