Rohit Sharma Made History In His Test Captainship Debut

Rohit became the second Indian captain after Polly Umrigar to win by a margin of his first Test innings. India dominated the entire match against Sri Lanka in the Mohali Test. Nearly 60 years earlier, in 1955, the Indian team, led by Polly Umrigar, had won by an innings.

Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin broke Kapil Dev’s two big records in the first Test match. Jadeja first came to bat at number seven and scored an unbeaten 165, becoming the cricketer to play the biggest innings for India at number seven.

Earlier, Kapil Dev had scored 183 runs against Sri Lanka in Kanpur, the highest ever by an Indian batsman at No. 6. After that, Ashwin has surpassed Kapil Dev in taking the most wickets. Ashwin has taken 438 wickets in Tests. He has surpassed Kapil Dev’s record of 434 wickets.

Batting first in the Mohali Test, India declared their innings at 574 for six on the second day. In reply, Sri Lanka was bowled out for 174 in their first innings, and India gave follow on to Sri Lanka. In the second innings, Sri Lanka was under pressure and was bowled out for 178 in just 60 overs.
