The Three Players Who Can Replace Eoin Morgan In The KKR Side

The remaining 31 matches of the Indian Premier League 2021 season are being played in the United Arab Emirates from September 19th to October 10^th, 2021. The eight IPL franchises had taken a big blow when the IPL 2021 season was postponed to an indefinite period when the tournament was held in India for the first 24 days. 

Many franchises will not have the services of foreign players. The players from teams like England and New Zealand cannot play in the second half of the IPL 2021 because they would be busy with their international commitments.

The former champions of the IPL, Kolkata Knight Riders, will also have a big blow. The England captain Eoin Morgan led the KKR side. Now the KKR franchise will have to pick a new captain to replace him in the second half.

The purple army franchise will also have to bring new players to the team because KKR will miss Morgan as the captain and a player. To fulfill this double blow, Kolkata Knight Riders will have to select some players ahead of the second half of the IPL 2021 season.   

In today’s article, we shall name the three players who are likely to take part as the replacement of Eoin Morgan in the second half of the Indian Premier League 2021 season –

Thisara Perera – The former Sri Lankan captain and all-rounder Thisara Perera can be the perfect player for KKR, and they could target him because 32-year-old Perera has more than ten years of experience in international cricket.

And KKR can use him as a batsman and as a sixth bowling option. For Sri Lanka, Perera has scored 1204 runs from 84 T20s with a strike rate of 151.6. He also took 51 wickets. Perera, who made his IPL debut in 2010.

He has played a part of the Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, and Sunrisers Hyderabad teams in the IPL. Perera has scored 422 runs and taken 31 wickets in 37 matches in the IPL so far, and he also knows the pressure of playing this cash-rich league tournament.  

Alex Carey –  The wicket-keeper batsman from Australia, Alex Carey, is a fixed member of his country’s ODI and T20I squad. He was with the Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2020 season. But he didn’t get many chances in that squad because of Rishabh Pant, and he was also dropped.

Carey can be a good option as the replacement of Morgan because he can bat in the middle order, and he can provide that impetus which KKR lacked in the first half of the IPL 2021 season; if he gets his chance, then Carey should look to make a mark. After a disappointing IPL 2020 season, Alex should use this opportunity as a golden one.  He had contributed with just 32 runs from the three matches he played for DC.

Carey can’t be written off with a poor performance in just one season. He excelled in the Bib bash T20 League in 2020-21. He scored 412 runs in 12 games for the Adelaide Strikers, and he also slammed a century in one game. Alex was also good at wicket-keeping in the BBL season. He took 20 catches, and he can be a good option for Dinesh Karthik as well.

Glenn Phillips – Glenn Phillips, the 24-year-old, is a player from New Zealand. He is another player that KKR will likely watch as the replacement of Morgan in their team. Philips has performed well for New Zealand and various T20 franchises. He also made his debut for New Zealand in 2017 as a wicketkeeper-batsman.

So far, Phillips has scored 506 runs from 25 T20s at an average of 28.1, with a strike rate of 149.7. He has played in 114 T20s so far in his career and has scored 3030 runs. Phillips is a player who can bat in any position. KKR can use Dinesh Karthik as their backup wicket-keeper. KKR did not do well as they would have expected in the first quarter matches of this season. The inclusion of Philips might help them to overcome this situation.
