Najmul Hossain Half Century helped Bangladesh to win Maiden T20 against England

Bangladesh has stunned everyone by beating the world’s number one side England in a T20 match by six wickets in a three-match series opener at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

Well, it is a great time for Bangladesh because it is their 50th T20 win but the most important thing is that it is the beginning of a new chapter in this shorter format.

Many experts have also expected that this win will boost the confidence of the team and they can do much better in the upcoming years. Najmul Hossain Shanto also believed that it is a new chapter for Bangladesh in a short format and the players will get a lot of confidence with this win.

Bangladesh restricted this strong England side to 156/6 in 20 overs. Then, they successfully chased this target in 18 overs. Najmul Hossain played a remarkable batting display by scoring 51 runs off 30 balls with eight fours and Shakib Al Hasan scored 34 runs and finished the required job very well.

England got a decent start from their first wicket, which fell at 80 runs. Philip Salt and Jos Buttler gave the team a solid start but the middle order couldn’t manage to continue that stroke playing and the team was restricted to just 156 runs.

Hasan Mahmud has done a great job taking two important wickets by conceding 26 runs in his four-over spell. Later on, Bangladesh also got a solid start, but they lost two wickets.in just five overs when the score was 43 runs. But then, Shanto and Hridoy built a great partnership and the finishing touch was given by Shakib Al Hasan and Afif Hossain.

The match turned when Bangladesh got two successive wickets of Duckket who got out on the last ball of Mustafizur and Jos Buttle got out on the first ball of the next over by Hasan Mahmud. It halts the scoring rate, which restricts them to a below-par score.

Najmul said, “there wasn’t a specific plan, we were just focusing on continuing the momentum to score some quick runs. We just want to play the game that we play in BPL and there was nothing different.”

“Well, I have been scoring runs constantly and I was the leading run-scorer of the team in the World Cup. It brings a lot of confidence to score runs in a shorter format and we just like to continue this approach.”

“Every day is a new day and our batting coach has given us the freedom to score runs and that is making a huge impact on the performance of the team.”.

He continued,

“The partnership with Towhid was amazing, he gave some time in the middle and started supporting. We know each other very well because of playing in Sylhet Strikers.”

“We have made a solid comeback in the last ten overs of the first innings. It boosts the confidence of the players and with the bat, we know that two partnerships can bring us towards win.”
