Mohammed Shami Passed the NCA test and will now depart for Australia

According to RevSportz, Shami passed his fitness test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and will now depart for Australia with Shreyas Iyer, Ravi Bishnoi, and Mohammed Siraj, all of whom were members of India’s ODI squad for the home series against South Africa.

However, it has since been claimed that Bumrah’s replacement will be announced within the next few days. Meanwhile, reserve pacer Mohammed Shami has regained full fitness and is a strong contender to replace Bumrah in the World Cup.

Shami was chosen for match practice ahead of the home series against Australia last month. He was ruled out, though, after testing positive for COVID-19. He was also rested for the next white-ball series against South Africa.

It should be remembered that the UP player, who had an outstanding IPL 2022 season with the champions Gujarat Titans, has not played a single T20 match for India since the T20 World Cup in the UAE in 2021. He has 20 scalps from 16 encounters, with an average of 24.40 and an economy of eight.

The news of Shami recovering full fitness is welcome news for the Indian team, especially after bowling all-rounder Deepak Chahar was ruled out of the just finished ODI series against South Africa. Chahar, a reserve in the 15-man squad, complained of a back injury and was transported to the NCA in Bengaluru to be watched by the medical team.
