Dhoni’s captaincy era was undoubtedly the most successful era for Indian cricket ever. Under his leadership, India not only won all the possible ICC trophies but also performed well on all tours and enjoyed no.

1 test ranking for a good period towards the end of the first decade of the 21st century. His captaincy skills were also visible in the Indian premier league where he has won 3 trophies and played the most number of finals.

When he announced his retirement from all formats of cricket on 15 August 2020, the whole country went through a deep shock; such was the legacy that Dhoni left behind.

1-Yuvraj Singh- having a big battle with cancer after contributing towards 2 important world cup victories i.e 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 World Cup, it was difficult to make a comeback for him although he scored his best ODI knock of 150 after his return but was not consistent, hence couldn’t stay long in the squad.

2- Ajit Agarkar- the pacer from Mumbai was India’s third-highest wicket-taker in ODIs. The problem with him as he gave away too many runs and had a poor form in 2006-07 when he was dropped from the side.

3- Dinesh Karthik- he was a second option to play in place of MS Dhoni as he wasn’t consistent and hence didn’t get many chances.

4- Harbhajan Singh- he played a very important role in leading the team to victory in the 2007 and 2011 World Cups. But after that selectors wanted young blood in the side and Ashwin replaced him, and he did not play much for India after that.

5- Gautam Gambhir- he played a very major role in both the 2007 and 2011 World Cup victories, but due to the rotation policy of openers adopted by Dhoni, he failed to perform consistently, hence was dropped from the side after that.
