In the latest One Day International ranking of International Cricket Council, there are some changes about the teams. Earlier, England was on the top of the table as the World Champions but they have recently been replaced by New Zealand.
As per the recent annual update by the ICC, England has lost their top position on the points table and New Zealand is the current holder of the first position.
The New Zealand team won the One Day International series against Bangladesh by 3-0 which got them two slots up in the points table last year. As per the current points table, Australia comes second with 118 points followed by India and England who are lying with 115 points.
ENGLAND’S BIG SLIP TO THE FOURTH POSITION
England has dropped from 1st to 4th position on the points table as the last time they won the championship was World Cup in 2019. Later, they lost two series against Australia and India. They lost one ODI against Ireland too.
The current points table shows the points of the matches played after May last year to 100% and 50% of the matches played in the last two years before that. As per the data, Australia who was in the 4th position moved up to 2nd while India who was in the second, slipped to 3rd.
However, in the T20 International points table, England is still in the first position. The second position is held by India who is 5 points less than England. England won the T20 series against Australia and South Africa and they got a tie against Pakistan.
New Zealand has also won multiple T20 series against Australia, Pakistan, West Indies, and Bangladesh which helped them in moving from the third position to fifth on the table.
The test rankings haven’t been updated yet as there is an ongoing series between Pakistan and Zimbabwe. The table will be updated after the end of the test series.
