Indian spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been a key member of the Mumbai Indians franchise since quite long time. Since his debut in Indian Premier League, his contributions created a major impact for MI franchise winning a record five titles.
He is known for his uncanny action that can trouble best batsmen in the world and can produce pinpoint yorkers making life tough for opposition players.
Bumrah stated that John Wright had come to watch domestic T20 match between Gujarat and Mumbai. During this match, he did not pick lots of wickets.
“I was just selected for the T20 competition, and that was just my second game, and it was against Mumbai. So, John Wright had come to watch Akshar.
I didn’t know I would get picked. I didn’t pick a lot of wickets, I just picked one, but I bowled well, I didn’t give a lot of runs.
“So, he came to watch one more game. He enquired and PP (Parthiv Patel) told me that he was asking about me. I thought he was clearly joking and making fun of me.
After a few days, I got a call from the Mumbai Indians and they asked me, ‘Are you interested?’ I said, ‘Of course, I am interested, that’s not even a question. Are you guys interested?’” said Bumrah in a chat with Dinesh Karthik on Sky Sports.
Jasprit Bumrah learned the art of yorkers from the Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga and is now a major part of Mumbai Indians set up. He made his IPL debut 2013, picking total of 115 wickets from 99 matches with career-best figures of 4 for 14.
His economy has been brilliant giving away just 7.39 runs per over on great batting pitches.
Mumbai Indians has won 5 IPL titles so far and would be looking for his performances in the 2nd leg of IPL. During the 1st leg of IPL 2021, Bumrah grabbed 6 wickets from 7 matches with a high economy.
