Jason Holder has admitted in his recent interview after the Wisden Trophy test match was over, that from the last few years West Indies Cricket team not doing well financially. They can only make money while they play matches with England and India.
He raised his concern regarding finally hit a place in the Caribbean. West Indies player Jason urged England’s team to visit the Caribbean before the end of 2020 which will help the West Indies board to be afloat for some more time.
West Indies is considered to be the least affected by Coronavirus and England certainly the highest affected country for some time. Despite considering all these reasons West Indies players and Support stuff agrees to take 50% pay cut considering the Covid-19 pandemic and decided to travel to England for test match series. Jason Holder even questioned ECB how they are going to repay this debt to the West Indies in the future.
Jason Holder even asked for a review of the ICC model. Due to that model apart from England, Australia, and India other teams are struggling a lot.
Holder speaks considering these three countries that England and Australia are having a lot of money and a hold on the currency as well and India is already is wealthy in terms of Cricket.
If we consider the West Indies, they are now suffering so much that their board is getting difficulty in funding their team even. If something is not done quickly it would be difficult for the small countries to play the International crickets further.
The England and Wales Cricket Board would have lost hundreds of millions of Pounds if the 2020 seasons fail to happen. There would have been an estimated loss of 280 million if the test series doesn’t happen on time.
Initially, the matches were scheduled from June and if it would have canceled they would have a heavy loss. West Indies came as a savior for ECB. ECB certainly owe a debt for the country of West Indies to show some mercy and now it’s their turn to return the favor.
Holder admitted that they don’t know what’s going to happen with their International calendar but if England pays a visit to the Caribbean, it would bring great help to fund the cricket team.
Till now there is no schedule for England in Winter. But Caribbean tour may clash with the IPL in UAE. England tour to Sri-Lanka and India for test match series next year is confirmed. So a Caribbean tour can also take place in the early months of 2021.
Considering the ICC revenue model ECB and BCCI make more revenue and countries like Ireland, West Indies, and Pakistan need to struggle to withstand their position in International Board.
The Board of Cricket Team should see this problem and sort out as soon as possible. Or else cricket teams will fall off soon. Hope that ECB will take positive steps towards Jason Holder’s urge to visit the Caribbean city as early as possible.
