After the IPL 2021 has ended, there are already talks going on about the next season. For the next season, teams are allowed to retain up to four players from the previous season. As we are expecting to see 10 teams for the next season of the Indian Premier League, 8 of them will have the privilege to retain 4 of their previous season players.
The decision was made after the last season of the tournament got ended. Some of the matches were played in UAE due to Covid-19 cases in India. After the finals, the Board of Control for Cricket in India decided along with the equal consent of all the team representatives. It was a mutual decision to allow four players for retention.
As per the reports, each team can retain up to three of their Indian players and two overseas players. However, the total number of players should not exceed four. There is also one more norm, a team cannot retain more than two uncapped players.
As of now, the budget for the auction will be 90 crores for each team. There are possibilities that every year, the budget will increase to 5 crores and will go up to 95 and 100 crores in the next two seasons. Also, Ipl Teams Set To Be Allowed 4 Retentions will easily cost them around 30-40 percent of their total budget. So, it will easily cost them around 35-40 crores for retaining four players.
As there are two teams new in the tournament, they have the chance to pick three players outside the auction. They are also allowed to take two overseas players if no top-level player from India is available. There is no chance that any of the existing teams will get to use the Right to Match (RTM) card at the auction.
The new teams in the league have not been yet sold. There is an auction set to be held in Dubai on 25th October. In the auction, the two new teams will be sold to the highest bidders. After the auctions get over, the announcement about the retention rule will be made.
So, this news answers a lot of questions regarding teams and their players. From Chennai, the team is surely going to retain their captain, MS Dhoni. In a recent interview, the owner of the CSK franchise, N. Srinivasan said that Dhoni is a part of CSK and without him, there is no CSK.
Along with Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja and Ruturaj Gaikwad are expected to be retained. From overseas, DJ Bravo j and Faf Du Plessis are the ones who might be there in CSK for the next season. For Punjab, they might retain KL Rahul, Delhi is expected to retain Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer. Every team has one or two players who are performers and they will retain them in the next season.
So, who do you think will buy the two new teams in the auction?
