Another batting collapse from Sunrisers Hyderabad allowed Virat and his to make a grand comeback into the match. RCB won their second game on the trot in this IPL 2021 season due to that stellar bowling effort. RCB beat SRH by six runs in the sixth match of this tournament.
Batting first RCB didn’t post a formidable score on the board. It was SRH who won the toss and invited the Challengers to bat first in this match. Bangalore opened with Devdutt Paddikal and Virat Kohli. But the start was not good as SRH dismissed Paddikal for just 11 runs in the second over.
Glenn Maxwell batted till the end for the Royals Challengers, and Virat Kohli gave him a little support towards the start of the innings. RCB promoted Shahbaz Khan to the number four position. But that also didn’t work for them as SRH kept picking wickets if the RCB batsmen.
Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers’ dismissals meant that Maxwell had to play sensible innings to guide his team through the 20 over the mark. Kyle Jamieson was the only other batted who played cameo innings. But ABD and Sundar departed early for a single digital figure score.
While the wickets kept tumbling at the other end, the Aussies all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who held the one end up for Royal Challengers Bangalore. Maxwell batted sensibly and brought his first fifty after five years.
In the IPL 2020 season, Maxwell had scored just 108 runs in 13 matches, and here in IPL 2021 season, he has already crossed the hundred-run mark with a half-century to his name.
In the two matches of this season, Maxwell has scored 108 runs to his name, and both the innings he has played till now were match-winning ones for RCB.
The Challengers posted 149 runs on the board because of a major contribution from Glenn Maxwell. He was out on the final delivery of the last over. Maxi scored 59 runs, and he was the highest scorer for the RCB team in this match.
The bowlers of the orange army bowled well in tandems. As usual, it was Rashid Khan who was the pick of the bowlers for SRH. The spin magician from Afghanistan took AB De Villiers’ important wicket in his spell of four overs.
The addition of Jason Holder worked for SRH. The Windies all-rounder picked up three wickets to his name with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan, and Shabaz Nadeem picked up one wicket each, while Rashid Khan was the most economical bowler who picked up two scalps to his name.
The run chase of SRH was led by their skipper David Warner and Manish Pandey. But the others didn’t even respond to this run chase as the batting of SRH was flattered after Warner and Pandey’s wickets. It was Rashid Khan who took close them to that total. But they fell six runs short of that target.
The story of SRH batting was the same against KKR in their first match, and they continued their same poor form here as well. Saha was found struggling against Siraj. He couldn’t cope with the pace and bounce which Siraj generated from that wicket, and finally, he was dismissed by Siraj in the end for just one run.
Then it was a partnership of 83 runs that stabilized the innings for SRH. Warner scored his first fifty of the IPL 2021 season. But he couldn’t stay for more time, and it was his wicket, which turned the game in RCB’s favor.
The bowlers of RCB pulled things back, and they picked up wickets regularly. Johnny Bairstow was out for 12 runs, and Manish Pandey was dismissed for 38 runs in the same over, which was bowled by the pace-bowling all-rounder Shahbaz Khan. These two wickets in one over dented the SRH innings.
Jason Holder, Adul Samad, and Vijay Shankar were dismissed on single-digit scores. It was a fight from Khan in the end with no support. Rashid took SRH closer to the total set by RCB, but eventually, he was also run out for 17 runs.
Harshal Patel bowled another good last over and ensured that RCB would win this match. It was another close win for Virat and his men. They won this encounter by a margin of just six runs n the end.
Shahbaz Ahmed was economical, and he also picked up three wickets by conceding just seven runs in his two overs. Siraj and Harshal Patel picked up two wickets each, while Kyle Jamieson picked up one wicket to his name.
Glen Maxwell was awarded the man of the match for his excellent 59 runs, which bailed out RCB while batting first. His contribution was most for the team in the context of the game.
