International Cricket Council Might Expand To 20 Teams In The T20 World Cup From The 2024 Season

According to the reports, the ICC – International Cricket Council might expand the teams’ entry to 20 teams from the 2024 World T20. The current team that will participate in the upcoming World T20 is 16, and ICC will not change this rule for the next two years of that ICC Mega event.

With this change, ICC is set looking to add 14 teams in the fifty-over world cup. The world cup of 2019 was played with ten teams. But there are talks of adding the 14 teams in the 50 over world cup tournament despite the broadcasters’ argument, who believe that the event will behave more one-sided affairs if more teams are participating.

The World T20 was scheduled to play in India later this year from October to November 2021. But the rising cases of the second wave of Corona Virus in the country might lead to ruin the plans of ICC and BCCI.

After the postponement of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League for an indefinite period, the ICC and BCCI will have to consider other options that will help them to host this tournament in the United Arab Emirates or Australia, who will be hosting the same event in 2022. So this year’s WT20 can be played Down Under if the Indian Board, BCCI can give the hosting rights to Australia.

BCCI is also planning to host the remaining matches of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League in September after the tour of India to England gets over. The Indian Board is considering hosting the remaining 31 matches in Australia, Sri Lanka, England, or the United Arab Emirates.

Nothing has been decided yet, and BCCI is not in a hurry to decide the fate of the IPL 14th season. But the Indian Board can consider hosting the remainder of this season in these four countries after they have offered them to host the remainder of the IPL 2021 season in their country.

Otherwise, the BCCI will lose more than 2500 crores if the balance of 31 matches is not played.
