India Vs Sri Lanka Asia Cup

Yesterday’s match played between the teams of India and Sri Lanka was witnessed as the most interesting match of the Asia Cup. Held at Dubai International Stadium, Dubai’s winning team was Sri Lanka, led by Captain Dasun Shanaka, and the Indian team, led by Captain Rohit Sharma.

It was a battle between the two mighty teams. In the end, of course, it looked like Shanaka the batsman was winning it for Sri Lanka, but it was Shanaka the bowler who changed the game. India was a team combination that did not surpass the bowlers to have a not-so-good day, and here they fell apart.

Sri Lanka had won the toss and hence got to field first in this 5th match of the Asia Cup Super-4 stages.

Sri Lanka chased down a goal of 174 with one ball to spare.

Kusal Mendis was the top scorer with 57, while his opening partners, Pathum Nissanka and Dasun Shanaka, were at 52 and 33 not out respectively. The Openers smashed free-flowing fifties in the field and created an exceptional win for their team.

The opening partners stood out by 97 runs and shoved the Indian team.

For India, Yuzvendra Chahal took three wickets for 34 runs, while Ravichandran Ashwin got one. He tried to bring India back into the game with three strikes in the tenth over of the second innings and he even gained some help from off-spinner R Ashwin.

Here, the trio of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Hardik Pandya, and Arshdeep Singh legged behind in restraining the Sri Lanka batters.

Then, Captain Dasun Shanaka and Bhanuka Rajaprakash manifested self-control after the collapse and shared an unbeaten stand of 64 runs to share a triumph over the mighty Indians.

For India, who broke out to defend another total in excess of 170 for the second consecutive time in the tournament, only Rohit Sharma was efficient in batting.

Rohit Sharma smashed 72 of 41 balls, being the top scorer for the side, but the middle order failed to deliver again. Sri Lanka’s bowlers kept on collecting wickets at a good pace after being the number one bowler. India scored 173/8 in 20 overs when it came to batting.

The second defeat was of Rahul David‘s boys, who were out of the tournament as they were totally dependent on the other team now.

However, Sri Lanka chased the target in 19.5 overs with 174/4 when given the chance to bat, losing by 6 wickets.

Sri Lanka remains at the top of the standings, having 4 points to its name. India will be eliminated if Pakistan beats Afghanistan in tomorrow’s match.
