India To Face Pakistan and New Zealand In Their Group Stages Of Icc T20 Cricket World Cup

From October 17 to November 14, 2021, India and Pakistan will host the T20 Men’s World Cup in the United Arab  Emirates and Oman. This will be the first meeting between the two teams in over two years, with the most recent being the World Cup 50-off in 2019.

The ICC announced the groups for both the first round and the Super 12s, the ICC’s first global multi-team event since the Covid 19 pandemic early last year, which will be a high-ticket event. The events will take place on Friday. Last month, India and New Zealand competed in the final World Test Championship in Southampton.

The ICC did not reveal the 16-team schedule, which was supposed to be finalised soon.

The first round will feature two groups, with games taking place in the UAE and Oman. Sri Lanka, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Namibia are in the  A group, while Bangladesh, Scotland, Papua New Guinea, and Oman were put in Group B. The top two teams will advance to the Super 12s, which will be held in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah.

The Super 12s have also been divided into two groups of teams. Group 2 includes India and Pakistan, as well as New Zealand, Afghanistan, and two qualifiers (B1 and A2). The defending champions, West Indies, England, Australia, and South Africa are in Group 1, as are the other two qualifiers, A1 and B2. According to the ICC, the groups were formed based on team rankings as of March 20, 2021.

Because they were No. 1 and No. 2 in the ICC T20I rankings at the time of the deadline, India and Pakistan were in different groups in the 2020 edition of the tournament, which was originally scheduled for Australia but was later postponed by the ICC due to the Covid-19 pandemic. For the first time since the 2010 World Cup, the two teams would not have competed in a global group tournament.

“There are some great matches between groups, and as our first multi-team event since the global pandemic is on the rise, this event begins to come to life for our fans,” ICC Chief Executive Officer Geoff Allardice said in an exclusive press brief on Friday.

“Because of COVID-19 issues, we decided to set a cut-off date as close to the end of the season as possible to ensure that the rankings for the groups include as much cricket as possible.”

“There is no doubt that when the event kicks off in three months, we will see some very competitive cricket.”
