The first Test of the five-match series between India and England will be played from August 4th 2021 at Trent Bridge.
India will look to bounce back after their loss in WTC Final against New Zealand. So the selection should be according to the pitch and conditions for the test series.
The pair of Rohit Sharma will have a new partner as Gill has been ruled out of the first test. So KL Rahul or Mayank Agarwal might get a chance to open
Rohit Sharma – In the first test match, Rohit Sharma will be the obvious choice to open the innings.
He did a decent job in the Australian tour. But Rohit Sharma should convert his starts into a big score. He should not repeat the mistakes which he did against New Zealand in the WTC Final.
Against England in India, Rohit Sharma did well as an opener. But in England conditions, he needs to see the new ball against Anderson, Board, Mark Wood and Olly Stone. After his decent exposure. Hit Man should use the opportunities in the five-Test matches.
Mayank Agarwal – Shubman Gill has been ruled out of the first test because of injury. This opportunity again gives Mayank another chance. After his failures in Australia, Agarwal needs to battle it out against England. He was the preferred opening batsman for India once. But because of his string of low scores, Agarwal lost his place in the side. Now he needs to use this chance to make a comeback and cement his place in India’s Test team.
Cheteshwar Pujara – The Wall of number 3 for India. Cheteshwar Pujara also batted very well on the Australian tour and faced the attack brilliant Pace attack scored 50 and 77 runs in the Sydney Test, while in the deciding Test in Brisbane, he played an important role in the team’s series win. But in WTC Final, Pujara didn’t show his pure class. Now he will want to come good against England in this series.
Virat Kohli – Team India’s captain Virat Kohli will come out to bat at number Captain Virat Kohli is the strength of the Indian batting order in all three formats. After India’s loss in the WTC Final, the pressure is even more on Virat Kohli.
He needs to prove again as a match-winner in this series against England. Since 2019, VK hasn’t reached the three-figure mark. Now Kohli is expected to have a series like 2018 and he also needs to lead the team to a series win in England
Ajinkya Rahane – Ajinkya Rahane had changed the fortunes of Team India in Australia. After being all out for 36 in the second innings of the Adelaide Test in Australia, Team India won the Test series 2-1 under Rahane’s captaincy against Australia.
Rahane gave India a historic victory by scoring a century in the second Test played in Melbourne, after which India drew the Sydney Test. Then won the deciding Test match in Brisbane. Now Rahane would like to continue his success against England, especially after the WTC Final lost
Washington Sundar – Sundar add more variety in the bowling department and he can bat at number seven.
Washington Sundar is off-break bowling. Sundar made a brilliant debut in the deciding Test against Australia in Brisbane and turned the tide of the match by scoring 62 runs in the first innings. Washington Sundar batted well against England in the home series as well. But he was unfortunate to miss out in the WTC Final squad.
Ravichandran Ashwin – Ravichandran Ashwin will be the leader of the spin department in the Test match against England. Ash did well in the final of WTC. But India needed more batting from their spin bowling all-rounders.
Ashwin has been in good form recently. But if he could bat like the second innings of the Chennai Test match, then India will compete hard against England.
Mohammad Shami – India’s speed star Shami was the only impactful bowler in the WTC Final. He bowled superbly in the first innings. But he could repeat that same performance in the second innings.
He got the reverse swing and he bowled with some good lines and lengths. He is a dangerous bowler for India. With Bumrah not in the best of Nick, Shami holds the key to India’s success.
Ishant Sharma – The tall fast bowler was instrumental in winning the test match at Lord’s in 2014. Ishant has the bulk of experience with him which he can use for India to win the series. Kohli will expect more from his pacers after the WTC slide.
Jasprit Bumrah – The Boom Boom effect has been missing from Jasprit. He has not been that effective as he was earlier. In the WTC Final, Bumrah went wicketless which was a rare sight for the Indian fans. Now he will need to stand up and deliver for India otherwise, India also can think of Mohammad Siraj as the replacement of Bumrah.
