Rains that pounded Jamtha overnight and early on Friday morning (September 23) are expected to have an influence on the second T20I match between Australia and India at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Ground.
The Vidarbha Cricket Association’s administrators are living in fear since rain is expected on match day despite Nagpur being under a damp spell for the past several days. The 45,000-capacity stadium’s match tickets are already sold out, and if the game is cancelled, the purchasers will need their money back.
Both teams arrived in Nagpur on Wednesday afternoon, and the next evening and night brought torrential rain. Early Thursday morning there were showers, and although they stopped about 10 a.m., there is always a chance of further rain due to the city’s dense cloud cover.
The likelihood of the ground drying on Thursday itself was further diminished by the fact that the sun did not even try to peep into the city under these circumstances. Both Australia and India were forced to cancel their afternoon and evening practice sessions due to the morning rain. The athletes worked out at the team hotel’s gym instead of going to the stadium.
Around midday, the groundskeepers removed the covers to inspect them, but they quickly replaced them because of the impending drizzle. In the hopes that there won’t be any more rain on Thursday and Friday, VCA officials said they are using the super sopper and making sure there are no leaks.
Nagpur is hosting its first international game in three years, and the supporters are quite excited. They quickly bought tickets online. Even then, inquiries about whether tickets were still available offline are making the phone at the VCA’s former stadium in the city ring nonstop.
The pitch at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Ground is batting-friendly and it is expected that the batters will have an advantage during the match.
The Pacers might get an advantage during the match, but the spinner will play a crucial role in the middle overs.
