In the latest ICC Test rankings announced after the 3rd Test match between India and England played at Headingly, Leeds, there have been some big changes in batsman rankings.
The England captain Joe Root has shown tremendous form in the ongoing series.
During the 3rd Test at Leeds, Root scored a brilliant 121 runs and helped the hosts to post a massive total. Due to his sensational form, he gained the top spot in Test matches after a gap of 6 years.
Kane Williamson did not play any matches since the World Test Championship finals against India slipped down one place to number 2nd.
Williamson showed great courage and fight to help New Zealand win the inaugural edition of the longest format.
Australian Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne maintain their positions at numbers 3 and 4. Both players have not played since the 4th Test against India at Gabba.
Rohit Sharma has overtaken Virat Kohli at the number 5th position. During the ongoing series against host England, Sharma played brilliantly as an opener including 19 and 59 runs in the 3rd Test at Headingly, Leeds that India lost by an innings and 76 runs.
The Indian captain Virat Kohli slips down one place to number 6th place. Kohli has dropped down from the top 5 places for the first time in a long time.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam also occupies the number 7th spot. He performed reasonably well in the Test series against West Indies.
Australian explosive opener David Warner, South African wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock and New Zealand middle-order batsman Henry Nicholls climb one place to complete the top 10 positions.
