ICC STALWARTS RANJAN MADUGALLE, KUMAR DHARMSENA TO OFFICIATE IN LPL!!

Lanka Premier League is all set to start on November 26. The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is feeling proud to announce that ICC’s Chief Match Referee, Ranjan Madugalle, will join the match referee panel in LPL. He will be joined by another stalwart of ICC included in Elite Panel Umpire Kumar Dharamsena who will join the umpire panel for LPL.

Dharamasena will join the 11 members’ panel for the inaugural season of the Tournament!

Sri Lanka Board’s request has been accepted and two stalwarts from ICC will join the Lanka Premier League for its inaugural season starting from 26th of November. ICC’s Chief Match referee, Ranjan Madugalle, and Elite Panel Umpire Kumar Dharamasena will be part of LPL.

In a press released LPL said that Madugalle who has featured in seven ICC Cricket World Cups which include finals of 1999, 2003, 2015, and 2019 will be accompanied by another member of the ICC Elite Match Referee Panel, Graeme Labrooy to officiate in LPL.

The referee Panel for LPL has also included Manoj Mendis who is a First-Class Match Referee. The theme of LPL is to take experience and freshers together.

On the other hand, member of ICC Elite Panel Umpire and two-time winner of ICC David Shepherd Trophy for Umpire in years 2012, and 2018, Kumar Dharamasena has accepted his part in 11 members’ panel for Umpires in LPL confirmed by a statement added recently. 

Along with Dharamasena, members of ICC International Panels of Umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge, Raveendra Wimalasiri, Lyndon Hannibal, and Prageeth Rambukwella are parts of Umpire’s Panel.

This is the first season of this league and Sri Lankan Cricket Board wants to ensure a good start. Lanka Premier League will present five teams to us, named after the states Kandy, Colombo, Galle, Jaffna, and Dambulla. These five teams will compete in 23 matches with semi-finals and finals at the end.

The tournament will kick off with an opening match between Colombo taking Kandy on the 26th of November at the Mahinda Rajapaksha Cricket Stadium, Hambantota. Though star players like Chris Gayle and Lasith Malinga have pulled out their names from the tournament LPL ensures a package of entertainment.

The tournament will comprise of double-headers matches every day until the two semi-finals on December 13 and 14. The final for the tournament will be played on the 16th of December. SLC has ensured all safety measures as per the Guidelines against the Coronavirus.
