The International Cricket Council is all set to finalize the chairman of the board by the end of next week. The announcement was made last Thursday via video call. The current chairman of ICC is Shashank Manohar. The procedure would be conducted on an online meeting as international travel is still banned in many countries.
Shashank Manohar hails from India and was appointed for the post of ICC Chairman in November 2015. He is the cricket administrator of India and one of the prominent lawyers of the country.
He has been the president of BCCI in 2008 and 2015. The man decided to call off the duties and therefore announced his discontinuation. The same made the board hold the meeting for appointing a new chairman.
Pakistan’s Ehsaan Mani was speculated to take Manohar’s place on the board. However, he rubbished the rumor and reflected no interest in taking up the responsibilities of the chairman.
The next candidate in line is Indian ex-team captain and BCCI President, Sourav Ganguly.
He had a record of winning many trophies and is handling the post very efficiently.
English Cricket Board Chairman, Colin Graves is also making headlines. The rumors have it that either Sourav Ganguly or Collin Graves would make it to the top.
In Thursday’s video conference, Sourav Ganguly represented BCCI. However, the candidature of the ex-cricket team captain of India depends upon the Supreme Court’s decision.
The six-month cooling-off period is waived off for Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah, but the order is to be sanctioned by the highest court of order.
