ICC Announce Men’s Player Of The Month Nominations

The International Cricket Council announced ICC men’s player of the month nominations for August across all formats.

These awards was introduced starting from January this year for the best performances across all formats for men and female.

The nominations for the ICC men’s player of the month nominations include Pakistan teen sensation Shaheen Shah Afridi, Jasprit Bumrah and Joe Root from England.

Shaheen Shah Afridi played a key role in the two match Test series against West Indies. He grabbed a total of 18 wickets including 10 wickets during the 2nd Test match helping Pakistan register series levelling 109 runs win.

During the second Test, Afridi grabbed his career best figures to skittle out West Indies early and produced a brilliant effort in the 2nd innings too.

Afridi became the fourth youngest Pakistani pace bowler to take ten wickets in a match after Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram and Mohammad Zaid.

Jasprit Bumrah played a key role for India in the three Test matches he featured. He took nine wickets in the first Test match at Trent Bridge, Nottingham but due to heavy rains, the Indian team could not register a win and it was drawn match.

The second Test match was a superb performance by Bumrah at Lords, London where Bumrah played key role with the bat stitching a brilliant 89 runs stand for the ninth wicket along with Mohammad Shami that proved decisive in India’s big win.

Bumrah produced a brilliant spell on the final day at Lords troubling England. It was a superb bowling effort by Bumrah helping India register a remarkable 151 runs win to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

The England captain Joe Root has been in sensational form during August. He showed great class in the 1st innings of the 2nd Test at Lords to remain not out on 180 and gave England 27 runs lead. Root also scored a brilliant ton in the 2nd innings of the 1st Test at Trent Bridge.

He led from the front in the 1st innings of the 3rd Test at Headingly, Leeds with a quickfire 121 helping England to post a massive total. His contributions led the hosts to win the 3rd Test by an innings and 76 runs. With that, England levelled the series at 1-1.
