HARBHAJAN SINGH HAS A MESSAGE FOR YOUNGSTER SHUBMAN GILL. LET’S FIND OUT!

There are all praises for Shubman Gill from veteran finger spinner Harbhajan Singh for brilliant performance in his debut series against Australia. The off-spinner said that he will feel satisfied and happy if Gill plays more test matches than him. It has been more than a decade since any player from Punjab has played in the whites of India. Shubman Gill has broken the 14 years long streak to play in the longest format of the game.

‘My Only Advice To Young Gill Is To Stay Focused And Play Long’ said Singh

After a fantastic series with the Bat against Australia, Shubman Gill is receiving praises from everywhere. Veteran Harbhajan Singh also joins the parsing list and said the youngster to play more test matches than the off-spinner has played. A small fact to check that Shubman Gill is the first player from Punjab in the last 14 years to play red-ball cricket. Right-Arm pacer VRV Singh played in 2006 was the last man to play in whites for India. 

Harbhajan Singh who has himself played 103 test matches knows what standards are required to play red-ball cricket. Singh feels that Shubman possesses all those qualities to play long for India. 

It should be kept in mind that Shubman Gill was not the first choice for the test series against Australia. He came as a replacement for Prithvi Shaw and his first innings proved that he is meant for this level of cricket. He hit his maiden half-ton in the third test in Sydney. No one can forget his innings of 91 in the second innings of the Brisbane test which led India to win that test match and the series.

His 91 in 146 balls helped India chasing down the record total of 328. That made Harbhajan Singh admired him and he wishes that the young player plays more test than him. Singh and Gill both belong from Punjab and thus there was an emotional touch in that Singh’s message. He asked Gill to stay focus and to look ahead all the time. 

He added that Gill is the first opener after Navjot Singh Siddhu to open for India and he wants him to end his career with more matches than Siddhu and Singh himself. All he said to India Today in an interview. He added in the last that he doesn’t know whether he will become captain or not but he has that mindset to play test cricket. After his great series against Aussies, Gill has been selected for series against the England team.
