Ramesh Powar powered to regain his head coach position in India’s Women Cricket Team. The former spinner has replaced WV Raman and claimed that position back after two years. However, he was sacked after his issues with the ODI captain of the women’s Team, Mithali Raj.
But two years later, the Madan Lal-led Cricket Advisory committee had recommended Ramesh Powar for this role. The Cricket Advisory Committee had interviewed eight candidates for this position before they chose Ramesh Powar for this job.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India had received 35 applications for this post, and they have announced that they have selected Mr. Ramesh Powar for the post of Head Coach in the senior team of India’s Women’s Cricket Team.
India’s former wicket-keeper batsman Ajay Ratra, with four female candidates and the former selector Hemlata Kala, was in the meeting conducted by Cricket Advisory Committee.
After he was appointed as the Head coach of India’s Women’s team, Ramesh Powar had tweeted that he is looking forward to work with the Indian women’s team once again. Powar has thanked the members of the Cricket Advisory Committee and the Indian Cricket Board, BCCI, for this opportunity through Twitter.
Madan Lal said that Ramesh Powar has experience working with the women’s team, and his vision to take the women’s cricket forward had impressed the CAC members most. Lal also mentioned that Powar has a clear-cut plan, and he clear on all the aspects which he wants to works. Madan Lal now hopes that Powar delivers for them.
Now it is needed to be seen how Powar and Mithali Raj work together once again. Mithali had accused Powar of being bias toward Harpreet Kaur, who the skipper of India’s T20 team. So they decided to drop a veteran player like Mithali Raj from the World T20 semi-final match against England.
Mithali Raj also wrote after the incident. She gave a complete description of the event and accused that Powar was there to destroy and humiliate her. Powar also replied that Mithali is throwing tantrums, and she has created chaos in the team.
Powar worked with Mumbai’s team, which took part in the domestic tournament of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Ramesh led them well after the team failed to do well in that T20 competition under him. Later Powar was also the bowling coach of the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore.
Ramesh Powar played 31 One Day International matches and two Test matches for India. His first stint as the coach of the women’s team was from July to November 2018, where the women’s team won 14 T20I matches in a row, and they also qualified for the semi-final stage of the World T20 that year.
WV Raman was the coach earlier. Under his coaching, India’s Women’s team had qualified for the final of the World T20. But India lost the limited over series against South Africa at home, which could be why Raman would have lost his job.
Now Powar’s full-fleshed work will start when the Indian women tour England to play one Test, three ODIs, and T20I matches on this tour which is happening for the first time in seven years. Later Indian women will also tour Australia before the World Cup.
