With Joe Denly ruled out of the English squad after suffering a back injury after the first match, Liam Livingstone was included in the playing 11 for the rest of the matches. England Cricket on their official Twitter handle announced the non-inclusion of Reece Topley as he recovers from a groin strain.

Before the ODI series, Ireland played two practice matches, with the second match against the England Lions. The games took place at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.

With the second match, the series has proved to be a disappointing one already as England, after having got off to a commanding start, all thanks to the opener Johnny Bairstow scoring a spectacular 82, suffered a slump during the middle-overs when they lost the wickets of Eoin Morgan and Moeen Ali.

What saved the hosts was a sensible play at the wickets by Sam Billings [46*] and David Willey [47*] who together took the team to an unbeaten 79-run partnership to help England to lead the 3-match series by 2-0.

As the teams move in to play the final ODI, it was to be important for the Irish team as they were attempting to stall a clean sweep from the English team and the responsibility was on the senior players to step up to the best of their game to be able to counter the attack from the rivals and they delivered. They won the toss & elected to bowl first.

The English bowling vertical went critically wrong as neither the spinners nor the pacers were able to get a grip on the match.

With economy rates averaging to 7.00, only Craig Young’s 3 wicket haul was a face-saver. The dropped catches added to the agony of the team as Stirling & Balbirnie who took the Irish to a respectable score and Tector & O’Brien sealed the deal and lead their team to what can be called a spectacular win.

The Venue:

Ageas Bowl being a fresh Pitch was expected to produce more runs than the other two matches held previously, and it went as expected.

The Outcome:

Ireland won the match by 7 wickets, beating the score of 329/3 with one ball to spare. England won the series 2–1 after Ireland won the third and final match of the series. David Wiley of England was awarded the Player of the series while the Man of the Match award went to Paul Stirling of Ireland.
