In a major blow for Pakistan Cricket, the England men’s team decided to call off the Pakistan tour after the New Zealand team left Pakistani shores due to security concerns.
Both England men’s and women’s teams were each to play 2 T20Is matches on 13th and 14th October in Rawalpindi. After the 2 matches each, the women’s team was a feature in 3 ODI matches from 17th -21st October.
“The ECB Board convened this weekend to discuss these extra England Women’s and Men’s games in Pakistan and we can confirm that the Board has reluctantly decided to withdraw both teams from the October trip.”
“We understand that this decision will be a significant disappointment to the PCB, who have worked tirelessly to host the return of international cricket in their country.
Their support of English and Welsh cricket over the last two summers has been a huge demonstration of friendship. We are sincerely sorry for the impact this will have on cricket in Pakistan and emphasize an ongoing commitment to our main touring plans there for 2022,” it added.
The New Zealand Cricket Team practiced for 4 days in Rawalpindi before decided to call off the ODI and T20I series due to security threats. Many teams like Sri Lanka, West Indies, South Africa played in Pakistan and there were no problems for the teams.
Newly appointed chairman Ramiz Raja is disappointed with the way England decided to call off the Pakistan tour due to a security threat. New Zealand arrived in Pakistan after a gap of 18 years. Both teams were scheduled to feature in 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is.
Pakistan would be eager to take revenge from New Zealand as they will be playing in the World T20 Group 2 Super 12 matches.
England players are currently featuring in the Indian Premier League. All of them are free to play till the end before they assemble for the prestigious World T20. It is a great practice for all players show their form.
