If someone searches for the most successful era in Indian cricket, one name that pops up instantly is Dhoni’s era. Such was the legacy of the legendary Indian captain who recently announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket on 15 August 2020.
India won all possible ICC trophies under his leadership. He was not only a great leader but also an amazing wicketkeeper, a very intelligent batsman, and a powerful hitter when the team needed him.
He has also lead his IPL side Chennai Super Kings to three IPL titles being the second most successful captain in the tournament after Rohit Sharma. Every Indian who watched the 2011 World Cup final still recalls that last six of MSD with high emotions.
Recently Dhoni achieved the milestone of hitting 300 sixes in T20 cricket in the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore when he smashed one on the bowling of Yuzvendra Chahal.
He became the third Indian batsman to do so after Rohit Sharma with 375 and Suresh Raina with 311 sixes. However in the end CSK lost the match and this becomes their 5th loss of the campaign with just 2 victories.
All not well for CSK:
CSK and Dhoni have to now sit and analyze this rough patch that the team is going through. The ‘dad’s army’ is not living up to the expectations of the fans and has been underperforming now with most of their batsman constantly failing and the void of Suresh Raina is not being filled by anyone in the team.
