Even Christian Ronaldo’s magical efforts couldn’t save Juventus from losing the battle to Lyons, which resulted in the exit of the team from the Champion’s League. With no victory in champion’s league since 1996 team Juventus will have to wait for one, at least until next year now.
The French team Lyon has been leading since February from 1 – 0. After the Lyons were handed over with a soft early penalty, Juve needed to score at least three times to progress.
Five times Ballon d’Or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo flawlessly got the score back from the penalty spot and then moved to his 130th Champions League Goal. Ronaldo aimed from his left foot to a distant range and quite effortlessly surpassed Anthony Lopes dive calling for a 2-1 score.
Alas! The efforts of Ronaldo went in vain eventually since Lyon firmly held their spot throughout.
With Paulo Dybala getting injured within a few moments of coming to ground as a substitute, the team Lyon earned the last eighth spot where they will now be facing Manchester United.
Referring to Cristiano Ronaldo, the league 1 club Lyon’s manager Rudi Garcia said that they have come up against an opponent who has an extraterrestrial in their squad. “This is the victory of a group” he added.
He expressed that the team wanted to be in the final eight in Lisbon and finally here they are. Although he also added, “We’ll still be outsiders and that suits us very well.”
With the team being a position at the ninth spot and losing their chance to win Championship League this year as well, Juventus manager Maurizio Sarri’s position could be under a potential threat as well now.
Although it might be a little harsh to put Maurizio under questioning within a year of being in charge probably that’s how it is in Turin. Hopefully, the Director might not make any harsh decisions as yet based on just one match.
