Pakistan has started its South Africa tour with a thrilling win. The visitors won the first ODI game of the three series in the 50 over format by three wickets in Supersport Park. The hosts, South Africa, had set a target of 274 runs for Pakistan.
The tourists didn’t have an excellent start to their innings. Fakhar Zaman got out early on just eight runs. Then it was the Skipper Babar Azam and Imam Ul Haq who guided the innings exceptionally well. They shared a partnership of 177 runs and brought the Pakistani innings on track.
Pakistani’s Skipper slammed a century, and Iman Ul Haq scored match-turning 70 runs for his team. Babar Azam was out on 103 runs, and he made many headlines after he scored his 13th ODI Hundred. The Pakistani Skipper is considered the run machine of his team, and he went past two great names in the list when he scored his 13th ODI ton.
Babar Azam is often in comparison with Virat Kohli and the other best players of the world. He has shown again why he is being compared to skilled players like Kohli, Sharma, etc. In yesterday’s game, Azam has added another feather to his cap.
His 103 run knock guided his team to a three-wicket win over the Proteas in the first One Day International match at SuperSport Park. He also went past a former South African and the current Indian Skipper to achieve an ODI record in the process.
Babar had scored his 13th ODI century faster than the former South African opener, Hashim Amla, and the current best India’s run-machine Virat Kohli by an innings margin. Hashim Amla held the record for scoring the fastest 13 ODI centuries. Amla took 86 ODI innings to achieve this feat, while Virat Kohli got there in 86 ODI innings.
But Babar Azam achieved this feat much quicker than the two stalwarts of the International Cricket. Azam took just 76 ODI innings to score his 13 ton in the One Day International format. Australia’s women team captain Meg Lanning reached this milestone in just 76 runs as well. She scored her 13th ton in the 50 over format in 76 ODI innings.
Pakistan is currently 1-0 up in the three-match ODI series, and they will play the second ODI on Sunday, 04th March 2020, at Wanders Stadium in Jonesburg. The two teams will also play a series in the shortest format after the ODI series.
