This summer has proven fabulous for New Zealand’s Skipper Kane Williamson as the Kiwi player has topped the ICC test rankings for Batsman for the first time. It is not finished here, under his captaincy New Zealand team has clinched the first spot in ICC test rankings for the first time in the history of their cricket.
Williamson has surpassed the former topper Steve Smith of Australia and second topper Virat Kohli of India to become the number one batsman in the Test rankings. Despite this former Australian great Mike Hussey rates Virat Kohli high than Smith and Williamson and holds him the best batsman in the longest format of the game.
Kane Williamson has dominated this summer with an average of 160!!
In my opinion, Kane deserves the first spot at the ICC test rankings. He has just dominated the summers with his batting as the kiwi player has scored 639 runs in the four-Test matches with a phenomenal average of 160.
Well, Virat is on a break currently for the birth of his first child and Steve Smith has just gained his form again in the third test where he hit a ton in the first innings and a fifty in the second innings. Let’s have a look at the stats of these three players. Australian great Steve Smith is currently the best batsman in Australia after legendary Don Bradman. He has an average of above 62.75 in the 76 test matches. He has hit 27 tons so far.
On the other, Blackcaps’ champion, Kane Williamson has scored runs with an average of 54.31. he has hit 24 centuries in the 83 tests. Indian great Virat Kohli averages above 53.41 with 27 tons in the 87 test matches he has played. Mike Hussey who has scored 19 tons in the test format, doesn’t believe in the stats. He said
while speaking with Fox Cricket, that all of them are just unbelievable, and looking at stats Smith takes the crown of best test batsman among three.
But according to Hussey, Kohli has passed the ‘eye test’ and that’s rates him higher in the eyes of Hussey in comparison with his fellow players.
He added that don’t get him wrong all of them are great and stats belong to Smith but he has watched Kohli with his eyes and that’s makes him best for him. Virat has shown the consistency required.
Well, everyone has different opinions despite the views Kane has captured the thrown of number one and has displayed Virat and Smith after a long time.
What do you think about Mike Hussey’s views? Well, Steve has been named the best test cricketer of the decade by the ICC.
